Stage Two: Adding Locations

Every new order is now evaluated against fulfillment routing rules you define: route to the closest node with stock, route to the node with lowest current load, prioritize certain node types (dark store vs. central warehouse) by order type. You set the rules once. The platform routes every subsequent order automatically.

The routing logic handles edge cases that manual allocation can't: what if the nearest node is out of stock? Route to the next nearest. What if the order has items at two different nodes? Split fulfillment or route to the node with the most items. All of this is configurable.

Stage Three: Operational Specialization

As your network grows, different nodes develop different operational profiles. Your central warehouse does bulk B2B orders and complex bundling. Your dark stores do express delivery. Your retail locations do ship-from-store for nearby customers.

A central warehouse might do batch picking in zones. A dark store might do single-order express picking. The platform applies the right workflow automatically based on where an order is routed.

At full scale, the WMS becomes a network optimization engine.
